Aésop Madison Avenue

We worked with the Australian company Aésop to design three East Coast retail stores. These stores, like all the company’s outposts throughout the world, are unique works completed by carefully chosen regional architects. As tiny spaces focused on displaying elegantly packaged skin care products, our store designs were exercises in material research and exploration, and detail resolution. By leaving the demolished site intact as the surrounds for the new precision-built installation, the old and new are highly contrasted to provide a radical counterpoint to the lavish glossiness of typical at Madison Avenue retail. Read on another level, the project shows that there is a perhaps a type of redemption in imperfection and the patina that comes with age.
