Size: 2,100 SF
Location: West Village, Manhattan
Like many lofts in the Greenwich Village area, the original 2,500 square foot space was built over time by several owners resulting in an ad-hoc accumulation of rooms arranged with little organization. The new owners requested that the apartment maintain the scale and spirit of the original space with as few walls as possible, but also provide a wide variety of programmatic uses within it. The solution was to compact most specific program uses - the office, library, kitchen, pantry, powder room, laundry, storage and mechanical - into one ‘service’ volume to allow the main living space to be as expansive and flexible as possible. This volume is wrapped in wood tiles which give texture and warmth while providing function to the surrounding open space.
