The Stephen Gaynor School is a new model for students with learning differences. The central open stair, inspired by the one in the school’s previous townhouse home, orients students and extends their opportunities to make eye contact and conversation - key Gaynor learning goals. The splayed concrete frame straddles the gym below ground and suspends the Ballet Hispanico - Gaynor’s development partner - dance studios on the upper floors. The building includes a unique classroom type with integrated break-out rooms for individualized instruction and a generous north-facing window in the library.
