The Programming and Pre-Design study for the Wexler Library represents Hunter College’s first step towards improving the functionality and appearance of the library since its construction in the 1970’s. The project re-imagines the library as the intellectual crossroads where all the essential activities of the college will meet and learn. This nexus would support the needs of the largely commuter undergraduate student population with the introduction of technology-enhanced common work and study spaces in the place of vacated collections areas. The bridges to other campus buildings and new vertical circulation cores generate the new program zones within the ten-story library.
