Achievement First Endeavor Charter School

(Marta Sanders with Rogers Marvel Architects)

Client: Civic Builders
Size: 21,000 sf new construction / 50,000 sf renovation
Location: Brooklyn, New York

We worked with Civic Builders and Achievement First, a New Haven-based charter school organization, to transform the abandoned concrete shell of a former ice cream factory into a new K-8 school for 700 students. With structural repairs and the addition of new expansive windows, the old building is well suited to house classrooms. A new steel-framed side addition provides infrastructure and a generous, glass enclosed stair to support the old building along with a new gym at street level. Mechanical equipment was strategically located to allow both the roofs over the old building and addition to be used for outdoor play.
